Hey there! I’m Fred Leamnson, Founder, and President of Leamnson Capital Advisory, LLC. Here’s what you need to know about me.
I’ve been in the financial services industry for over 30 years (yes, I’m that old!). I’m the author of a popular blog, Money with a Purpose.com where I write about personal finance topics to give readers the knowledge to help align their money with their life.
So much of the information out there about personal finance is biased, confusing, and, very often wrong! I started Money with a Purpose to offer an alternative to the industry jargon and the constant drumbeat of noise coming from the mainstream financial (and other) media. I encourage you to check it out and let me know what you think.
Below, you will find a summary of my path to this point. It’s been an exciting journey that has made me a better person and a much better advisor.
Here’s some of my story.
From brokerage to fee-only
Founding Leamnson Capital Advisory, LLC in April 2011 represented the realization of an increasingly compelling vision.
I formed that vision while serving in the retail brokerage industry for more than 20 years.
I had seen much during those years. And I determined there was much room for improvement. My vision drove me to implement what I knew to be true.
There was a better way to help investors think about and make smart, confident decisions about their money.
It was the motivation to move out of the sales-oriented culture of the brokerage industry that helped me decide to form Leamnson Capital.
Now, my sole purpose is to help people accumulate, grow, and protect their wealth so they can achieve their most important goals and desires.
A Fiduciary by Design
The Center for Fiduciary Studies defines a fiduciary as follows: An Investment Fiduciary is someone who manages the assets of another person and stands in a special relationship of trust, confidence, and legal responsibility. They go on to list four standards that define that care.
To ALWAYS
- Act in the best interests of the client.
- Resolve any conflicts or appearances of conflicts to the advantage of the client.
- Abide by a strict Code of Ethics
- To FULLY and CLEARLY disclose how we are compensated.
That’s why I chose to form Leamnson Capital as an investment advisory firm, rather than partner with a broker-dealer.

How this benefits people who work with me
I wanted to make it crystal clear to anyone considering hiring me to know I am bound to operate as a fiduciary.
The only form of compensation I receive is from fees (retainer, flat fee, or percentage of assets) my clients pay in exchange for that best interest advice.
Many in the investment advisory space use the fact that they are fee-only to disparage the brokerage industry. Or, for that matter, anyone who does not adhere to the strict fee-only form of compensation.
I disagree with that stance.
There are plenty of great, honest, competent advisors in the brokerage industry.
There are also plenty of dishonest, bad advisors in the investment advisory community.
With that said, I believe it is less likely to hire a dishonest advisor who has chosen to adhere to the fiduciary standard.
Choosing the fiduciary standard says a lot about how they view working with their clients.
